REMEMBERING BART GIAMATTI

Peter H. Tveskov
May 1, 2008

I picked up Robert P. Montcreiff's book "Bart Giamatti - A profile"

in the library.

Bart was one the most impressive people I have had the privilege to
know and work with in my life and I was looking forward to reading a
definitive description of my friend and colleague and his years at Yale.

I was disappointed to find the book patronizing and a great
disappointment. For those of us who lived and worked at Yale during
the "revolutionary" days of the 1970s it was amazing how some things
could have been left out or downplayed.
As an example, there is no mention of the attempt to blow up the
Ingalls Rink! No joke for those of us who worked that night!

In the list of people that Mr.Montcreiff interviewed  for the book,
not a single "administrator" - like me - shows up, nor are any
mentioned in the book - even if there were many yalies among us!

One of these days someone should write a book about those days.
Gaddis Smith supposedly was working on one, but I have not heard any
more about that endeavor.
